Waiting on Wednesday #19

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking The Spine where we share with everyone upcoming new releases that we're eager to get our hands on! :)

Mine (Real, Raw & Ripped #2)
by Katy Evans
Expected Publication: November 12th 2013
by Gallery Books

“I will do anything to make her MINE.” —Remington Tate

In the international bestseller REAL, the unstoppable bad boy of the Underground fighting circuit finally met his match. Hired to keep him in prime condition, Brooke Dumas unleashed a primal desire in Remington “Remy” Tate as vital as the air he breathes . . . and now he can’t live without her.

Brooke never imagined she would end up with the man who is every woman’s dream, but not all dreams end happily ever after, and just when they need each other the most, Brooke is torn away from the ringside. Now with distance and darkness between them, the only thing left is to fight for the love of the man she calls MINE.

Remy (Real, Raw & Ripped #3)
by Katy Evans
Expected Publication: November 26th 2013
by Gallery Books

New York Times bestselling author Katy Evans expands upon the intense love story begun in Real and Mine—this time from Remington “Riptide” Tate’s point of view.Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.

Through it all, there’s been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he’s ever had to fight for.

Remy people. REMY! Not only that but it's twice the Remy in November. That's gonna be the best month ever. Ever! Sigh. Okay *tries to calm down* ... Oh, oh! And that Remy cover?! I'm done for. So. Freaking. Excited!!!

Top Ten Tuesday #19

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

I have been in such a slump lately. Just doing the bare minimum and posting the blog tour posts I'd committed myself too. I think I overwhelmed myself and just sort of got burned out. But I was inspired by this weeks topic and so I'm going to try to work myself back into the fun that I used to have blogging. (Plus I'm almost finished with Bared to You and I'm freaking out so I need to put it down for a bit and take my mind off it..ha!) Sooo...without any further ado...

This weeks topic is...

Top Ten Twelve Best Sequels Ever!
(There was more but these were the ones I just couldn't cut no matter how hard I tried...)

In no particular order:

Phoenix | Black City #2
by Elizabeth Richards

I am a dystopian nut, when the books are good that is and this series has been my all time favorite to date. I can't wait for book 3!

Point of Retreat | Slammed #2
by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover really knows how to pull out a wealth of emotions from you and I always seem to underestimate her when it comes to mine. "Oh she got me good on the last book but this one will be different!" You fool! She'll. Always. Get. You. Smh

Losing Hope | Hopeless #2
by Colleen Hoover

Take everything from the above book and just rinse and repeat for this one! Seriously I thought it would be so much easier reading Holder's story. I mean I'd already been there before right? Wrong. It was harder. Okay I need to move on before I start crying haha

Opal | Lux #3
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I worship every single thing this woman writes in any book she's written, that I've read this far, the Lux series is at the top of my list. Opal. Sigh. Opal... this book. If you've read it, you know. This was one of the toughest to get through. Especially since it was such a long time between finishing it and Origin's release. (Which I still haven't read yet.. Don't kill me. I will, I will!) Opal had such a heart wrenching ending but I still loved every minute of it.

Accused | Ganzfield #4
by Kate Kaynak

Kate's Ganzfield series is up there with JLA for me. Not everyone will be a fan of the first book just because there's some serious insta-love with Trevor and Maddie. Normally not my thing but I seriously fell in love with these two and all the other characters in this series. Love, love, love. Accused had me in stitches quite often and is my overall favorite at the moment!

Boundless | Unearthly #3
by Cynthia Hand

If I have a favorite list of any sort, this series will end up on it. I love all three of them pretty much equally, but the end of, well the end, was both bittersweet and heartwarming. It's hard when both guys in a "love triangle" are good guys in their own way. So I was heartbroken for one but overjoyed since the guy I fell for got the girl in the end. Aww I need a reread soon :(

The Human | Eden Trilogy #2
by Keary Taylor

Another fabulous dystopian series. I think The Human just had so much more intensity to it. Lots more action. I can't wait to get the last book gets in my hands!!

Forever | The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3
by Maggie Stiefvater

This was my first strictly werewolf series I read. Back when I read this series I wasn't blogging yet nor had I discovered Goodreads, so my new reading material went on friend recommendations quite a bit. My BFF said I had to read the Shiver books and since the Fallen series, also suggested by her, went over so well with me I went out and blindly bought all 3 books. Then...I read Shiver and wasn't a big fan. I was disappointed but I had the other 2 so I figured why let it go to waste and picked up book 2. I'm not sure what it was but somehow from book 1 to book 2 ...I was hooked. And Forever, #3, was even better!

Atone | A Fairytale Trilogy #2
by Jessica Grey

Ahh fairy tales. Princes and princesses. True love. Curses and magic. How can you not love any of that?! I loved Awake, but when I picked up Atone I almost didn't want to read it because the love interest...well I really didn't like him from the first book so why would I want to read a whole book about him? I am so glad I did. In the end I fell in love with the guy. I love it when an author can do that to me! Jessica Grey has become a top favorite author of mine with these two books. Read both!

Never Too Far | Too Far #2
by Abbi Glines

I had this book for a few months before I finally read it. Fallen Too Far had me so torn up and shredded my heart. This one was right up there and doing the same thing, but it had a much happier ending. I freaking love Abbi Glines!

Immortals | Runes #2
by Ednah Walters

Immortals was about a billion times better than Runes. It got so much more in depth with the mythology of the book and had quite a few surprises that had me so excited. Plus more Torin. Best reason to read it right there!

Taming Cross | Love Inc #2
by Ella James

I've always enjoyed Ella James's writing. Though I wasn't totally crazy about Selling Scarlett, I also didn't hate it and I really wanted to know more about one of it's side characters, Cross. Lucky for me...the second book was all about him. I loved Cross's story.

★★★ (3/5) Stars!

Baya Brighton is looking forward to her first year at Whitney Briggs University, new friends, dorm life, and finally being close to her brother again. Love is the last thing on the list, but when Baya meets her brother’s roommate she begins to have thoughts and feelings that make even her blush.

Bryson Edwards has a secret he prefers buried in the past and long forgotten. He prefers loose girls, fast cars, and long nights working at the string of bars his family owns. When his roommate’s sister shows up on the scene, she’s far too innocent and sweet for him but he can’t shake Baya out of his mind and worse, it looks like she’s seeping into his heart as well.

Baya seems determined to show her brother she’s not a little kid and equally determined to use Bryson’s body to prove her point. It’s been made pretty clear that Baya is off limits to Bryson but their undeniable sparks explode into a whole lot more than just a few 3:AM KISSES.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So here's my dilemma. I liked this book well enough to give it three stars, though just barely. Bryson, Baya and myself got off to an extremely rocky start and I had a hard time coming back from that. I do hope this comes out with a positive vibe in the end because I didn't hate it by any means, I just took issues with a few things.

Honestly I think I would have liked this book a lot more but for my first impression of Bryson. The way he came off when I first met him really irked me and set the tone, making it hard to let go of that initial irritation. What kind of person thinks it's okay to first of all show a girl you just met the notches on your wall? Not only that but to point to the other wall where her brother's notches are and point those out as well? It's was disgusting not impressive. If I was Baya not only would I have punched him in the junk for being such a sleaze, but I would have done it to my brother as well for being so disrespectful to women. I definitely wouldn't have been crushing on him that's for sure.

I also felt like the story was way too focused on sex. I'm far from a prude, trust me, but I felt like it was just too in your face and was taking the focus away from the rest of the book, which was disappointing. I mean before the whole notch on the wall situation, Baya has just arrived at college and entering her room for the first time, and well any other time for that matter, she walks in on her roommate having sex...and they don't stop they just keep going at it. Her roommate then becomes the butt of jokes (there's a pun in there somewhere!)

After I got past some of my issues the story and the characters were okay. Baya is quick witted and funny. She's always good for a bit of snark or funny comment. Getting over Bryson's man-whorishness, I actually grew to like him. Once he started changing his ways that is. The relationship between Baya and Bryson was a bit rushed for my taste but all the same it was very sweet.

Her brother Cole was another huge frustration. He has this vision in his head that Baya is this sweet, innocent girl, which for the most part she was. Though she wanted to experience new things and grow up, maybe fall in love. Cole had other ideas. He thought fun for her should be joining a book club and dating guys he hand picked for her, things like that. All the while he's man-whoring around sometimes with multiple women right in front of her and thought nothing of it. He treated her like she was 12 and it drove me crazy.

In the end I'd have to say, I enjoyed it for the most part. A little less focus on sex and more focus on the really good storyline and I would've really loved it. New Adult doesn't equal sex, sex, sex.

Becca Ward knows that magic is real…

Two years ago not only had she and her best friend Alex found a real-life Sleeping Beauty in the middle of Los Angeles, they also discovered that they were powerful in their own right. They’ve managed to keep both their fae powers and their friend Lilia’s identity as a medieval princess a secret and live a normal life. Now their normalcy is threatened by the return of their former adviser at the Gem and Mineral Museum—and Becca’s least favorite person, Nicholas Hunt.

…and she’s about to find out that more than one fairy tale is true.

Nicholas has been obsessed with proving Lilia’s identity and the existence of magic. While working on an archaeology dig he discovered an ancient fae artifact—a mirror that is imbued with a powerful protection spell that twists his obsession, and his body, until he is more beast than man. In order to protect her friends, Becca is forced to help him, and she is surprised to find that in spite of his outward appearance, Nicholas is no longer the beast she remembers. Will she let herself be the beauty that breaks the curse, or will she let her prejudice against him stop her from discovering true love?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I basically read the books in this series blindly. When the email came in to sign up for the Atone blog tour, I pulled the book up on Goodreads and I pretty much got to where I saw it was "A Fairytale Trilogy" and I didn't even go any further, I just signed up. After receiving my review copy I then realized it was book two so I immediately went to Amazon and downloaded Awake.

See, I always jump at the chance to read a fairytale retelling. The fun, the excitement, the romance, the new spin on the old classics. They can be real hit and miss though, and up to this point all the ones I've read and loved have been mostly set in historical romances, until now. Jessica Grey has, twice now, left me feeling completely enchanted after reading her brilliant spins on both Awake book 1, my first read of a spin on Sleeping Beauty, and now with Atone, a modern day Beauty and the Beast. Not only has she written what are now two of my absolute favorite retellings to date, she has also preformed the near impossible that very few authors have been able to do with me. She took me from greatly disliking (hate is such a strong word..) a character, Nicholas, in Awake, let's face it if you read it you know he was a tool, to falling completely in love with him in Atone. I guess the book lives up to it's name.

Atone also had one of my other favorite ingredients added to it. The enemies to romantic interest twist. When I first realized that Nicholas was going to be Becca's love interest I thought no way. For one I couldn't stand him and I knew Becca wasn't his biggest fan. This is going to be impossible and I'm going to hate it! But I really wanted to give it a chance. It didn't take long before I was sucked into their story and praying for what I thought was the impossible, for Nicholas to grow a heart.

I loved having all my favorite characters back. Well Alex, Lilia and Becca I should say. I did miss Luke being around, he was mentioned quite a bit though. I was happy to see, since this book is set 2 years after the events in Awake, that the three girls were still close and stronger than ever, in both their magic and their relationships with each other. And I love the way they look out for each other and keep the others grounded and sane. Not only can Jessica Grey weave a story that will have you captivated and not want to put it down but she has created some very strong, realistic and likable characters.

If, like me, you love a good fairytale, this series is a must read. Though I feel like Atone could standalone fine on it's own, I still highly recommend reading Awake first. It'll give you a deeper appreciation for this one. Plus it was so much fun! I can't wait to read Lilia's book and figure out so many questions I have. Some of which being things like, duh, what's her fairytale going to be? Which one of the two possible guys that I've met to this point will be in her happily ever after? There's one I'm hoping for but we'll see! I'm also sad to get to it and bring this series to a close. I've enjoyed it so much so far and I don't want it to end! Add this series to your reading list, you won't regret it! They're fun, sweet and tug at the heart strings. What more could you ask for?

BLOG TOUR: Loving Your Lies by Piper Shelly ARC REVIEW + GIVEAWAY

★★★★✩ (4.5/5) Stars!

Julian is drop-dead gorgeous, annoyingly provocative, and he’s fast becoming her best friend. But he also has a secret that makes the little hairs on her arms stand on end…

My name is Jona Montiniere, and that’s pretty much the only good thing to say about me.

I’m seventeen, I’m snarky, and I’m a crap-load of trouble. Or so they say. But what did they expect from me really, when they dumped me in an orphanage at age five? That I’d grow up to become the new first lady? Nah, I think it’s much more fun to raid Camden Market in London with my friend, Debby. She’s cool. She lives on the street. I learned so much from her.

The only thing she missed to teach me was how to tend to a vineyard. And yeah, that’s what I’m going to do for the next 6 weeks, courtesy to this darn judge, who sent me off to France after I was caught stealing again. Fair enough, the vineyards are okay, and so are my aunt and uncle, who I haven’t met up ‘til now. What isn’t okay, and I mean it, is that I have to live in the same house with my mother, that god-awful dragon, who spurned when I was only a child. And now she wants me back? Demands my forgiveness? Why, because she’s about to die of cancer? Uh-uh. Sorry, but that’s not gonna happen. I want no contact with that woman, thanks.

But what’s Julian got to do with all of this? About my age, he’s too young to be my mother’s lover. So why doesn’t he leave her side? Ever. He’s different, as in the paranormal kind of different, but he’s sa-woon-worthy gorgeous. He obviously has secrets, but he’s also get-under-my-skin charming. In short, he’s a riddle to me. But he likes me, and that’s scaring the shit out of me. I sure won’t let anyone come too close.

So now I’m wondering only two things: How did he manage to hold me in his arms after only three days? And how the hell do you keep an angel earth bound?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am such a sucker for a good book/series with angels in them. This one was perfect in the fact that if you take the angel out of the equation there was still this amazingly bittersweet story at the core. Just that part of the story line alone, made it worth reading, the angel part was just a nice bonus. The relationship between Jona and her mother had my heart in a vice grip and I was literally aching for the two of them. Jona had been so wronged by her mother and had such a terrible childhood that you almost had to wonder if it was ever going to be possible to come back from that, even with her mother on her death bed. I was torn between wanting her to attempt to mend things before it was too late and feeling she was totally justified in her anger and resentment. I teared up on more than one occasion.

Jona was spunky and lost and a bit jaded by life. There was a lot of anger inside her which, for the most part, was very understandable once you got into her background. She was frustrating at times because she was so hard headed but all in all she was fun to read and I laughed and I cried watching her go from a snarky, angry, closed off girl in the beginning, to a girl who learned how to open herself up to life's possibilities and to love and letting people in and taking risks.

And then there was Julian. Ohhh Julian. I was swooning over this guy through the whole thing! I think even if I hadn't read the summary above before starting this book I still would have easily figured out his big secret, what he was, but there was still plenty of mystery left about him, like his purpose and such. I felt like he struggled quite a bit through this book, between his duties and his growing feelings for Jona.

There was also a really good group of supporting characters that each added their own little bit to the book. My favorite of which was Quinn. Quinn was basically a cop who was behind numerous of Jona's arrests over the past year. He saw past the 17 year old delinquent in her and knew there was something more to her. He became sort of a big brother/best friend sort of figure in her life. The interactions between the two of them were some of my favorite moments and I loved that he never gave up hope or wanting to help her.

The best thing about this book was the fact that you have this beautiful love story that wasn't lust fueled. There was no jumping into bed, sure there were some great kissing scenes but that was it. The focus remained on the characters and the story and I didn't want it to end.

About the author:

The quick-and-dirty:
I’m a cool girl with a passion for writing.
The genres you’ll find me hanging out at are contemporary and paranormal YA, but I’m also snooping into some adult paranormal right now. All of them romances…of course.
The nitty-gritty:
I’m an Austrian lass—totally uncomplicated and up to anything fun.
I grew up in Vienna, not by free will but because my parents decided to move there when I was only 4 years old. I. Hated. The. City. Everything about it. So right after graduation I moved back to Upper Austria, where I settled down with a nice husband and an awesome laptop.
I’ve been a storyteller all my life. Already in kindergarten, I came up with the most exotic fantasies and tales. My teacher would call me a liar. I call it the cornerstone of my writing career.
People always told me you can’t make a living with being an author. So when my first novella PLAY WITH ME came out and shot straight to the stars within the first week, I was totally dumbstruck. Took me a while to realize what was happening, LOL.
And the personal stuff:
At the (awesome) age of seventeen, I met the love of my life. But he was a playboy, and I was so not going to be his next trophy. It took him another four years of fighting for me until I finally decided to give that “couple-thing” with him a shot. I’m now married to this man. ;-)

We have an eleven-year-old son, and together we travel a lot…although I sometimes wish the trips were shorter because I can’t wait to get back to my laptop and my many stories. Unless we’re in Disneyland. No stress to go home then…

If you still want to know more about me, my FAQ page is the right address for you. ;-)

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something...

Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan...

She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.

But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been dying for this book, dying, for the last 6 months, when I finished reading Runes, the first book in the series. If, like me, you read and liked Runes then you know exactly why I couldn't wait to get my hands on Immortals. If you haven't, holy cliffhanger from hell! Oh and by the way, what are you waiting for? Go get it now and read it! Then you can come back and tell me how right I was. ;)

I'll admit I was a bit worried before I started this. I mean I seriously was in love with the first book, though I quite literally was yelling and cursing with the way Ednah Walters left us hanging. The anticipation was killing me, but, would Immortals live up to the series starter? That would be a great big hell yes. It not only lived up to my expectations it blew them out of the water. It even took a few characters I really wasn't big fans of when before I began and completely flipped my views of them around.

Runes felt like it focused quite a bit on Raine and Torin and their growing relationship and all the ups and downs within. But with Immortals we got some of that, but then there was so much more. So many people have secrets and quite a few aren't exactly what they appear to be. We also got to delve much deeper into the mythology of the series, which was absolutely fascinating. There was intensity, both in danger and romance. Plus a couple of twists along the way.

As I was saying before, so many people aren't completely as they appear to be and so I was surprised to find myself slowly starting to warm up to a few characters. Eirik being the first one. It's not as if I hated him in Runes, I think I was just so preoccupied and focused on Torin and Raine that Eirik just sort of became like background noise to me. He was there, I knew he was there, but I just wanted to brush him aside and get to all the good stuff. He's got a huge secret and a big role in Immortals. I found myself wanting to know more and more and was completely falling for this guy.  And the more that both we and Eirik himself find out about who he really is, the darker and more dangerous the book becomes and the harder it is to put down!

Andris was the other one that really surprised me. Honestly in Runes I thought he was a complete tool. He just seemed so angry and mean and bad things seemed to happen with him. There was something different about him though this time around. Sure he was still arrogant and cocky and enjoyed stirring up a bit of trouble, but there was a bit of heart to him as well and a bit of compassion. Dare I say I actually like him now? Miracle of all miracles! We also got to see quite a bit of his funny side, he was definitely entertaining.

Immortals made me fall in love, not only with the series a little bit more but also the characters. It was a crazy ride full of laughter, frustration, heartache and so many swoons. If there's one thing Ednah Walters is good at it's the "Oh. My. God!" type of swoons. *Fans self* The Runes series is simply a must read for any fans of mythology out there. And now the torturous wait for the next book to come out...

Haven't read the first book yet?

Runes (Runes #1) by Ednah Walters

Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin.
