RELEASE DAY LAUNCH: Bayonet Scars Series Box Set by J.C. Emery

Where Souls Spoil
(Bayonet Scars Box Set Volume I)
by J.C. Emery

THIS IS THE END OF THE BEGINNING...

The only thing stronger than the bond of Forsaken's brotherhood is the strength of the women who fight for their hearts.

In Ride we fell in love with Ryan despite our better judgment and cheered Alex on in her relentless pursuit of his heart. In Thrash we hurt for Nic as she struggled to trust Duke and let him love her. In Rev we saw Grady as both an intense lover and a flawed man trying to be a good father. In Crush we were consumed by the volatility of first love with Jeremy and Cheyenne.

Now, in Vow we see the product of Ryan's love as he searches for something that Alex may not be ready to give-- yet.

For a limited time the first half of the Bayonet Scars series is together with Ride, Thrash, Rev, Crush, and Vow plus Where Souls Spoil & Hearts Rot, an exclusive guide to the Forsaken Motorcycle Club and the Bayonet Scars universe.

Love is never more riveting than when it's Forsaken.

Ride:

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can't take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.

Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn't have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn't dare cross.

Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.

Thrash:

Loneliness suffocates the heart. Acceptance breaks down walls.

As a Lost Girl to the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, Nicole Whelan knows how to party. She’s not cut-out for relationships and her life is way too complicated for anything more than casual encounters. But one night when she falls into Duke’s bed at the clubhouse, he sees something in her that he can’t let go of—no matter how many times she tries to run.

Having been left to raise her teenage brother, Jeremy, she’s already got her hands full and isn’t looking for anymore complications. But Duke’s just watched his best friend fall for the only girl he couldn't have, and then almost lose her so shortly after, shaking him to his core. Faced with his own loneliness, he’s more determined than ever to break down Nic’s walls and show her that he can be good for her; but he’s got a bad track record and she’s got a bad temper. Changing his ways isn’t easy when he’s not sure what he’s even changing for.

The violence and turmoil are at an all-time high, and Forsaken is in a vulnerable place when a twist of fate breathes new life into the club. It’s a much-needed beacon of hope for the embattled biker family, even if everyone’s not exactly on board. With Duke and Nic’s relationship already on shaky ground, and something even more important at stake, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club will fight like hell to keep their family together and whole.

Love is never more precious than when it’s new.

Rev:

Everyone belongs somewhere. Even the misfits.

With the looming threat from the Mancuso Crime Family, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club is preparing for a war that could destroy them. Grady, the club’s Sergeant-at-Arms, knows that love makes you weak, and he has zero interest in adding to his liabilities– especially now. He’s already got his teenage daughter who keeps him on his toes and a beef within the club that could fracture his relationship with a fellow brother for good.

For Holly Mercer, her life is finally getting on track and the last thing she wants is trouble from her hometown’s resident outlaws. Keeping her nose clean is easier said than done, when suddenly she finds herself embroiled in club business. Holly might like the idea of being with a real-life bad boy, but even being in the same room with tough-as-nails Grady flusters her.

When Holly inadvertently finds herself on Mancuso’s radar, she has two choices: trust that Grady will protect her, or continue to refuse the club’s help. Both roads are dangerous, but only one has the chance to damage her beyond repair.

Love is never more dangerous than when it can destroy you.

Crush:

Young love is always perfect. Until it's not.

Cheyenne Grady is a total daddy's girl to her bad-ass father, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club. She's funny, and kind, and she just wants that deep, earth-shattering love like her dad has with her school secretary, Holly. But Cheyenne's been looking in the wrong direction, because the only good that can come from the way she looks at Jeremy Whelan is a lesson in heartbreak.

Jeremy always wanted to prospect for the Forsaken Motorcycle Club and wear the same patch as his father. When a life-long dream becomes reality, Jeremy realizes that the outlaw lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. Nor is it easy on relationships. He wants to be a good man, but temptation is everywhere.

Cheyenne is beautiful, and strong, and exactly what Jeremy could have forever. As long as he doesn't screw it up.

Love is never more powerful than the first time.

Vow:
(VOW ONLY AVAILABLE IN BOX SET!)

HE REFUSES TO GIVE IN. SHE REFUSES TO GIVE IT UP.

Alexandra Mancuso knows all about regrets. She talked to the wrong person and started a war that’s ravaged her newly adopted motorcycle club family and threatens to cost Alex her life. Now, she’s cautious with the commitments she makes.

Ryan Stone, road captain for the Forsaken Motorcycle Club regrets nothing—except putting Cub in danger one time too many. The Forsaken Motorcycle Club has a plan to end the war with the Mancuso crime family and they need everyone’s head in the game. But Ryan can’t focus on the club when he’s so distracted by a certain reckless brunette. She gives him everything except for what he really wants.

Today, he refuses to take no for an answer and maybe, just maybe, this time Alex won’t be able to stand her ground.

I received a copy of this book from InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating!

Before I start things off with this review there's something I need to get out there for those of you considering this series. As I've stated in the previous reviews for the first two books this is a dark romance series. There's usually something big that happens before the end of each book and the "holy shit!" factor is being upped with each book so far. There is a scene nearing the end of Rev that is frankly...quite disturbing and very, very graphic. For those who are slightly squeamish, oh hell even for those who are tough to crack, this will be very hard to read. I myself ended up having to skim through it at a certain point. Just know this ahead of going in, but honestly that still might not even prepare you for it.

Moving on...

The scene takes me back to being in high school and wondering what it’d be like to date a bad boy. That was when I thought only bad boys could be no good for you.

From the moment I started this series I've been pretty much consumed by it. I've read these first three books in just a few short days. From the opening of Ride I was sucked in and hopelessly intrigued by them and the characters. I've lost track of time and lost sleep, I'd start off telling myself "I'll just read for a couple hours and then I'll go to bed." which would later turn into "it's 3am?! When did that happen?!" Which sucks when your alarm goes off 3 hours later...

I bet she’s so tightly wound that she’s never even jaywalked before.

Having not really known much about Grady ahead of time, except for like his position in the club, and Holly being an entirely new character Rev was a surprise for me all the way around. Right off the bat I liked Holly. She's different from the girls in the first two books. Alex having grown up a mafia princess and Nicole having grown up in the lifestyle and raised by one of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club. So they're both used to strong, dominant, take no bullshit assholes. Holly is, while not entirely innocent by any means, she has a past of her own, but it's nothing compared what she comes up against getting mixed in with the club. I absolutely loved her. She is tough as all hell, she doesn't back down from Grady or let him intimidate her, she has a heart of gold. It was a lot of fun seeing her get mixed into their crazy world and watching her try to adapt.

The man emits intimidation and sex appeal like they’re disposable, yet charm is something he lacks.

For a bit I didn't think I was going to like Grady like I have both Duke and Ryan. Due to some heavy events from the first book Grady has a major beef with Ryan. We're talking punches being thrown level of beef. And being a big fan of Ryan I wasn't having Grady's attitude. Though the more you get to know the guy the easier it is to understand and see his point of view with the situation. He has eventually come to be my favorite guy from the series so far (though Jeremy may give him a run for his money in the next book!) I think maybe it's the whole single dad thing and seeing him interact with his daughter, Cheyenne. He's seriously probably one of the meanest and toughest guys in the club so far but seeing him be daddy to a teenage girl...well it melts your freaking heart pretty quickly!

I won’t let this man be number eight.

I'm sure you're probably thinking to yourself, "Well, Sheri, you gave us that huge warning at the beginning and yet you still gave it 5 stars...that just doesn't make sense!" I will try to explain without spoilers because honestly I think, aside from that one scene, this was my absolute favorite book so far in the series. Hands down. I feel like though, if you look at this book as if it were a true story, or hell even a movie or something, the events from the end of book two lead up to the situation in this one happening. If you look at the types of people that you're dealing with it's plausible and very real. Did I like it? Oh fuck no! Two innocent people got fucked up both mentally and one physically. Just because the realness of the situation was hard to process, doesn't mean it lessened how much I've enjoyed this book or even the series this far. All I know is, by this point, I can definitely handle whatever J.C. Emery throws at us next! Um...I think...

I'm beyond excited for Crush and Burn to release and I'm hoping so much that they won't be the end. There's still a couple guys at least who I'd like to have a story (Diesel). I'm still just as hooked as I was when I finished Ride but sadly now is the waiting game. And I don't even know how long!!

And that's the dangerous thing about having something worth losing-once it's gone-and that always hurts.

Well if I wasn't already hooked after reading Ride, book one, I'm not even sure how to describe how I'm feeling about this series after finishing Thrash. Though I absolutely loved Ryan and Alex's story, there was just something about this one with Duke and Nicole that I felt even deeper. I was already a huge fan of Duke's before starting this so getting to continue on with his story and get to know Nic better had me all sorts of excited. And there were no disappointments here. It was just as dark, just as frustrating and just as emotional as it's predecessor. All in the very best of ways.

Nic doesn't do sweet because she doesn't know what to do with it, but asshole she understands.

Nic had made a few appearances in the first book as Alex fought hard to befriend her and you could see Nic's reluctance through Alex's eyes. She was done with club life and people associated with the club. She seemed all kinds of tough and screwed up and I was very interested in knowing more of her story. The more I got to know her story the more endearing she became to me. Sure she's got an attitude and a mouth on her but this girl has had it rough and she struggles in silence with a determination to make it on her own because she can only depend on herself. Yet it's not hard to see through the cracks and see the girl beneath the though as nails exterior. Her baggage is full of things like abandonment and abuse and so much other stuff. Stuff that would have had me giving up so long ago and yet she fights everything and makes so many sacrifices to keep her and her brother together. She's just all kinds of awesome.

"The shit we do requires us to be assholes. Can't always turn it off just because we should."

I had already started to fall for Duke before I even started this one. Sure he's just as much of an ass as the rest of the Forsaken guys but there's also this playful side to him that always spread a grin over my face. He likes to push people right past their limits and then sometimes keep going. And not just playfully sometimes he does it just to be a complete ass. But it didn't take very long into this book to see that while he has those sides of him there's also this gentleness, that you don't expect to see, when it comes to Nicole. He's not perfect and he screws up...a lot and he says the wrong things...a lot. But his persistence and certainty when it came to his future and Nic would melt my heart. I'm such a sucker.

But that's the problem with club life-the thing these men love the most is the club.

I loved the fact that the timeline for this story runs parallel to the first book. So sometimes there was a whole outside perspective to things and situations that were happening in Ride. And seeing the events that would eventually lead up to situations that happened as well. Like one of the times when Ryan had flipped a switch and went from hot to cold suddenly and I thought to myself  'well that's just Ryan being Ryan' but come to find out there was actually a whole explosion that led to it. Plus finally being able to see one of the most major events that happened in Ride but we only saw it in Alex's point of view, with Thrash we got to see the Forsaken side of it through Duke. Loved it!

My girl's hell on wheels with a bottle of Jack and her middle finger up in the air-at least with me she is.

For most of the book I thought this one was going to be a bit milder than the first one. I mean there was still the frustrations, the attitudes and the ups and the downs but I had assumed that we'd just be dealing with the aftermath of the craziness that goes down in Ride. Little did I realize that the end of Thrash would present itself with a whole new crazy all in its own. Craziness that perfectly lays the groundwork for us to expect some serious shit to go down as this series progresses and I can't wait to see how it all goes down. With two situations of unsettled business I know we've not seen anything yet. And I'm pretty freaking nervous!

Seeing that shit firsthand makes me believe that maybe even the most difficult, hard to love soul can be loved by someone. Sappy as it is, it gives me hope.

As you can see I'm still just as hooked on this series and the guys of the Forsaken MC. They're all gruff and harsh and have mean streaks in them like you wouldn't believe but there's still just a bit of something about each one of them that gives you hope that they're not hard all the way to their cores. At the end of the day, sure, they do a lot of questionable shit and they give each other hell and they fight and disagree. But each one of them would lay down their life for each other and their families if it came down to it and I can't wait to continue on and get to know some of the rest of them better!

I received a copy of this book from InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating!

I don't know what the patches mean to him, but I know what they mean to me. He's a dangerous man.

This book isn't for the faint of heart. If you're looking for a sweet, romanticized version of a motorcycle club romance where the brooding, bad boy biker falls for the sheltered, beautiful, mafia princess and he whispers words of love and devotion to her as they ride off into the sunset on his Harley...this isn't the book for you. It's dark and gritty. It's rough and dangerous. It pushes boundaries. Ryan isn't the knight in shining armor riding up on his white steed and sweeping you off your feet. Ryan is an asshole in leather on the back of a Harley. It's not whispered words like "I need you" that come from Ryan's lips. Instead he whispers words like "I'm going to fuck you out of my system". That's the kind of book you can expect to crack open...and it's my new addiction.

It's as real as anything fucking gets. That kind of shit makes a man almost believe it can be replicated.

I've never read an MC romance before. It's not that I haven't wanted to, it was just a matter of where on earth do you start? I knew it had to be good because, let's face it, it's kind of a turn off when you're trying something new and it doesn't capture your attention. It makes it harder to pick up something from that category again. When the opportunity presented itself to review the first three books in this series I was a bit iffy. I looked this one up and read the blurb and while it had me curious I was still on the fence. Until I scrolled down and saw that one of my favorite authors had given it 5 stars. I mean she's one of my biggest go-to gals when I want to read something sweet and swoony. Heavy on the sweet! So to see her give it such high marks there was no question I was sold. And if this book is any indication of the quality of MC romance books out there, then I have a new obsessive fascination to soak up my time. Or a new author at the very least.

It's unfortunate how little physical contact I've had with others that even the smallest touch matters to me.

The characters are brilliant and so freaking real. Alex is like a swirl of contradictions all rolled up together. She's sheltered and a bit naive, yet strong and bold. She has moments of tremendous confidence and others where she's unsure and afraid. She craves freedom and when it's offered she wants structure and instructions. For the lifestyle that she grew up in she has one of the biggest hearts I've seen along with determination and a fire that all come together to make up one of my favorite main characters I've read.

Ryan is like a game of Russian roulette. It doesn't matter how it ends, it's not going to end well.

As I said in the beginning Ryan is an asshole. He's intense and at times heartless. He's cocky and gruff. He thinks things like I hate it when bitches are sad. They end up crying and shit. There are so many negative qualities I could sit here and point out for you about Ryan but one of the worst ones is how dangerous he is...especially to your heart. It didn't matter how awful he could be at times, and trust me it was pretty fucking bad, there's just something about him that draws you in and has you losing your senses and better judgement. Alex sees him though and through her and her belief in him and determination and trust you can't help but feel it too. I quite easily lost my heart to him and want nothing more than for him to look me in the eyes and grunt "Again." If you've read this you understand. *Fans self*

The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for. - Bob Marley

I'm enjoying diving into the darker worlds of romance. Sometimes I don't always want sweet and sappy. I love those kinds of books truly, but there are times I love the emotional toll a book like this can take on you, having my heart put through the wringer. Don't get me wrong though this wasn't beginning to end dark and rough. It was also funny and a bit sad at times and even a few moments of heart pounding sweetness. I'm so sad to say goodbye to this one but I can't wait to start Thrash after I'm done here and dive into Duke's story. Sure he's another asshole but I can't wait for him to start pissing me off...and making me fall for him. J.C. Emery...you have a new fangirl in the making!
