2014 End of the Year Book Survey!

The End of the Year Book Survey is hosted by Jamie at The Perpetual Page-Turner

Since I'm lazy and didn't look for anything to put up for Waiting on Wednesday, I figured I'd finally finish filling this out and get it posted before 2015 is over! These don't have to be books released in 2014 just so you're not saying to me later "Um, Sheri, that's old..."

2014 Reading Stats

Number Of Books You Read: 95ish

Number of Re-Reads: 11

Genre You Read The Most From: Contemporary by a landslide and this sort of makes me sad. Must mix it up in 2015!

Best in Books

1. Best Book You Read In 2014?

Archer's Voice (A Sign of Love) by Mia Sheridan

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t

I'm stuck between 2 of them. First was Click to Subscribe by LM Augustine I thought I was going to love it but ended up DNFing it which was disappointing. Second is Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth and I can't exactly say why because hello major spoilers but yeah...so disappointed and sad. (which reminds me Wendy be expecting a LONG fb msg very soon I forgot about the spoilers!)

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014?

Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout definitely in a good way. Not that I expected not to like it but reading the Lux series it's always been like Lux = good and Arum = bad and since Hunter is an Arum I thought I'd have biased feelings from reading the other series. Not to worry I loved Hunter in a very different way!

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014?

I'm not sure about the whole "and they did" part but I will have to say that the book I shoved in people's faces the most was The Collectors' Society by Heather Lyons

5. Best series you started in 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?

Started: Bayonet Scars by J.C. Emery
Sequel: Rev (Bayonet Scars #3) by J.C. Emery
Ender: Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2014?

So I couldn't decide between 3 so I'm going with Amy Andrews, Jay Crownover and Alice Clayton

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

I read my first MC book this year, well now four of them, and they definitely started as out of my comfort zone because they are more dark romance and I'm used to the light and fluffy with a bit of angst mixed in. But Rev (Bayonet Scars #3) was my favorite of the series and truly touched on some dark, dark and disturbing stuff but I still ended up loving it!

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout I loved how she ended this series. Definitely action-packed, edge of my seat, losing sleep kind of book!

9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

Wallbanger (Cocktail #1) by Alice Clayton. This one was so freaking funny and steamy all at the same time. I want to reread it so badly!!

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2014?

11. Most memorable character of 2014?

I'm kinda surprised but also kinda not. Archer Hale from Archer's Voice. I read this question and he instantly popped into my head. I love him. He made my heart ache, break and swoon.

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2014?

Archer's Voice. This one is quite repetitive throughout this post but it was my favorite.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2014?

I had one at first but at the last minute I knew there was one other one that I couldn't pass by. So the first one is Making Faces by Amy Harmon and the one I couldn't pass up was The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Both of them really made me think.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2014 to finally read?

Once again I'm stuck between two really good books. Both The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson and Divergent were books I finally read in 2014 and was then kicking myself for not reading them sooner!

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014?

Sometimes an understanding silence was better than a bunch of meaningless words. - From Archer's Voice

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2013?

Shortest: Annabel (Delirium #0.5) by Lauren Oliver - 35 pages
Longest: Shadow Rising (Wheel of Time #4) by Robert Jordan - 1007 pages

17. Book That Shocked You The Most
(Because of a plot twist, character death, left you hanging with your mouth wide open, etc.)

Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth. If you've read it than you know. If you haven't well I sort of envy you that. Sometimes I wish I could just forget.

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
(OTP = one true pairing if you aren't familiar)

Sigh. How do you pick one when you freaking ship everything!! But honestly I have to go with Rome Archer and Cora Lewis from Rome (Marked Men #3) by Jay Crownover. I ship it! I ship it so hard!!

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year

Daemon and Archer from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Oh my gosh this bromance was written in the stars. Sigh.

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2014 From An Author You've Read Previously

White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout because frankly I love everything this woman writes and I liked this one above book two because of question #22 oops spoilers! Haha

21. Best Book You Read In 2014 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey. I was in the middle of a bunch of review books and had just picked one up but everyone was just raving about this book so I tossed everything aside and devoured it. Totally worth it ;)

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2014?

Enough said??

23. Best 2014 debut you read?

Her Hot Number by Talia Hunter. I didn't read many debut books in 2014 (something I need to change in 2015). Honestly this could have been the only one I didn't look very hard. But this one was pretty steamy and cute.

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson. Holy jeebus this book may have been a bit complex at first but once I started grasping the world it was just a big old slice of perfection!

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Boomerang (Boomerang #1) by Noelle August. I've read a lot of fun books in 2014 but I smiled the most through this, it was just so damn funny!

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2014?

Nearly cry? Pffft there is no nearly when it comes to me! Only a giant box of tissues and the shredded pieces of my heart. I get so emotionally invested in books sigh. The two that got to me the most were Making Faces and Archer's Voice. Feels!!

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram. So sweet and so cute and all I want is to know more people have read it. I adore Avery and Grayson! (They'd probably be my second choice for the OTP question :D)

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?

ALL THE BOOKS! No but really... Allegiant and Archer's Voice. At least Archer's Voice sewed it back together again. *Gives Allegiant the look*

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2014?

The Collectors' Society. Honestly it was so different and refreshing. Characters I've loved from childhood mixed in with the new and exciting modern world. It was perfection.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn't necessarily mean you didn't like it)?

Soulmate (Ganzfield #6) by Kate Kaynak. I was so broken up with how rushed this series ended. It didn't feel anything like the series I had fallen in love with at all. I was pretty ticked off when I got to the end. Still upset just thinking about it. Moving on!

Blogging/Bookish Life

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2014?

There's quite a few and I'd feel bad picking just one so if I've followed you in 2014 then obviously I enjoyed your blog!

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2014?

I'm always overly critical of what I write. I tend to blab and therefore I really don't have one.

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

Probably the one where I panic about my review book TBR pile. I really haven't done discussion posts so it was slim pickins! Oh and um ignore all of the missing images from the post I will be fixing that as soon as I can. I was trying to fix the folders I have all my post images in and I sort of messed it up so I'm starting at the beginning and working my way back. I'm 4 out of 10 pages done so a lot of my posts might be missing images and/or GIFs. My bad...

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?

Sigh. One of these days I'll get to go somewhere awesome like BEA so until then there's nothing for here. Memes are fun but meh I'll just say nothing for 2014.

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2014?

 photo MaiTaidUpARC_zps01ffa3ac.png

When Jess tweeted me this from her ARC of Mai Tai'd Up! I mean what?? I was on a book nerd high all night. Still kinda am haha!

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

Okay I reaaaaaally don't feel like doing the work to figure out either of those. What can I say I'm lazy! I started this post back when it was still 2014 ;)

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

The whole GET ALL THE VIEWS and RECEIVE ALL THE COMMENTS thing isn't really me. I feel accomplished if even one person views anything I post so you could almost say all of them or none of them. If it happens then it happens! Life's too short to stress about numbers on something I do for fun! :)

9. Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?

Book freaking Outlet. Though honestly...it's also the worst as well. Discounted freaking books? Are you kidding me? Sigh. Since mid December I've gotten like 20+ books from them. It's a sickness guys. But I don't want help haha!

10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

Um I really didn't sign up for any or get involved in anything except the Goodreads reading challenge and yes I did complete that. Though I had really low balled it at 75 books because until...March? Somewhere between March and June I didn't have a computer and wasn't sure how good I was going to be about keeping up with it without one. I used to hate the GR app before some of the recent updates. I'm getting more used to it now. But yeah I easily blew past that 75 so for 2015 I doubled it. I did find an interesting one that I might involve myself in for 2015 though so stay tuned!

Looking Ahead

1. One Book You Didn't Get To In 2014 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2015?

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #1) by Michelle Hodkin. I started this post back in December and on January 1st made this my first read of 2015 so mission accomplished! It. Was. Awesome!!!! Review coming up on Friday ;)

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2015 (non-debut)?

The Return (Titan #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout. SETH GUYS!!!!! SETHHHHHH sigh. I've totes been Team Seth since I started Covenant. YES WENDY I KNOW I STILL NEED TO FINISH THE SERIES GET OFF MY BACK GOSH!!! Haha anyway. I guess I'll have to get on that before I dig into this but I NEED SOME SETH!

3. 2015 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

I have a huge sad guys. :( Originally I would have put Red Queen here but it's getting such unfavorable reviews. Lots of people are saying stuff like "it's way too similar things like Red Rising" which I totes have and want to read and since it came out first I'm sticking with that one to read first then I'll, some day, compare Red Queen to it. Such a bummer. But never fear for I have a second debut that I would love to get my hands on....A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas. Fairy Tale retelling!! SLEEPING BEAUTY!! Ahh I want now *grabby hands*

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2015?

We're gonna go with sequel for this one and say GIVE ME The Hidden Library (The Collectors' Society #2) NOW!!! Please? I cannot wait eeeeep!

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2015?

They kind of go together but 1) read all the books I got from NetGalley way too long ago and 2) read mostly books I currently own and quite buying/requesting new ones!

6. A 2015 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone:

I've only got one book that still isn't out yet (next month guys!) that I highly recommend. Paper or Plastic by Vivi Barnes. It is so adorable/angsty/funny/swoon worthy. Loved it! :)

So that was my year in books/blogs! One thing I realized throwing it together is that Archer tends to be a running theme throughout this post. But from three different books and lots of different answers. Hmm..it also happens to be my astrological sign...Sagittarius. Pointless information all of it I just found the coincidence strange yet fun! Ignore me haha. Did you do one of these posts?? If you did feel free to leave me the link in a comment because I love these types of posts :) Thanks for sticking through to the end!!
