He’ll make her an offer she can’t refuse…

Actress Tess McKenzie is performing in the Tenth Circle of Showbiz Hell—dinner theater. All she really wants is to start a theater of her own. Then Tess receives an offer she can’t refuse. She’ll get her funding…if she pretends to be the fiancée to her nemesis, Texan property tycoon Hunter Dade. If she’s going to pull this off, she’ll need all the luck she can get. Break a leg, indeed.

On the verge of a big business deal, Hunter needs to hire a fiancée. He hasn’t quite forgiven Tess for ruining his wedding, but when their chemistry goes from combative to straight-up lust, the “no sex” clause in their mutually beneficial arrangement is tested. Which is a serious problem, because if Tess isn’t careful, she’ll go from breaking a leg to breaking her heart…

I received a copy of this book, from the author, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating!

Oh. My. Word. I am wrecked. If there's one thing I've discovered from reading her books, it's that Kate Meader has a gift for writing these electrifying couples that are filled with such an intense passion they'll set your heart pounding, steal your breath, and set you on fire. Not only that but she does all that while simultaneously making you feel something else. Heartbreak, frustration, humor, anger, anything you can feel she'll bring it out of you. All these things coming at you at once, like a delicious assault on the senses and emotions.

I'm normally pretty hesitant to pick up a book knowing that one of the main characters is an actor/actress. My brain will scream, "Diva! Run!" Thank the book gods though that it was Kate who said "Hey I've got this book..." because I absolutely adored and fell in love with Tess McKenzie. Tess is the farthest thing from any stereotype you can conjure up when you hear the word actress. She's sweet and funny but more importantly she's independent and very empowered and she's stubborn and calls Hunter on his crap. I loved how even though they've had this huge rift between them since just about the day they met, she's still very protective of Hunter. It made my heart swell with emotions to see someone taking care of him for a change and being in his corner.

Speaking of tall, dark, and Texan....Hunter Dade. That man has been through hell. Hell. A hell that he still keeps allowing to try and drag him back under. It may have taken a great tragedy, but Hunter has pulled himself up from nothing and I have so much respect for the fact that instead of letting his roots take hold and keep him in the poor white trash column, he rises above. He's a survivor, a fighter. He's a swirl of contradictions. Controlled and focused one moment, ready to pound someone into the ground the next. He's a protector. If this were medieval times I'd expect to see him in a suit of armor, grasping his sword and shield as he sits atop his noble steed. Knight in shining armor? Yes please! Hunter has every reason in the world to be bitter, cruel and uncaring. But seeing how generous and full of heart he is...made me lose mine to him.

I am so thankful that this book was so well paced. Lately I've read too many Brazen novels that just felt rushed to get from point A to point B. They had these really great storylines but not enough time to let them play out and do them justice. Even the Score on the other hand, even though it was a quick read and only took me a day, it was agonizing at times feeling like that happily ever after would never get here and was too far out of reach. I do not mean that in a negative way at all. It was a slow and delicious grind that I devoured and it left me wanting more. It allows you to really get to know the characters and where they're coming from and they're struggles.

Honestly though, if you haven't realized this by now...I loved this book. I had so much fun reading it. If you haven't read a book by Kate Meader yet I cannot recommend enough giving one a try (most especially this one!) They're steamy, filled with emotion and most of all heart. I can't wait to see what comes next in this series my fingers are crossed for either Flynn or Brody (Hunter's business partners!)

A huge thanks to Kate Meader for the opportunity to read and review this book!!
