American lass seeks brawny Scot...

As if being newly single isn’t brutal enough, Sloane Chatfield's friends are getting obnoxious about setting her up. When Sloane insists she's waiting for a certain sexy fictional Highlander to come along, her friends surprise her with a trip to Scotland to find her a new boyfriend. She’d rather have a root canal. But if she can find a Highland hunk to “break her heart” before her friends arrive…

In a remote Highland village, Galen Buchanan is struggling to keep the family pub afloat. Everything is falling apart, he’s running out of money, and now there's an opinionated American lass parked at his best table, driving him mad. But then Sloane asks Galen to be her pretend Highland boyfriend...and offers him enough money to save the pub. It’s only for a few days, he figures. What's the worst that could happen?

I received a copy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating!

The Perfect Bargain was a cute, fun and quick read. I mean when you have a somewhat uptight American girl and a rugged Scottish pub owner and a fake relationship all thrown together? It's just brimming with fun possibilities.

I really enjoyed both Galen and Sloane's characters. Like I said in the opening, Sloane was a bit uptight and closed off in the beginning, but even so I really liked her. It never came off in a negative way. In fact in Sloane it comes off as coming from insecurities within herself, so instead it had this endearing quality to her stuffy and prim side. Plus it was lots of fun seeing this society/city girl adjust to life in the Scottish Highlands, with wandering sheep and cows and being away from all the luxuries of city life she was accustomed to.

How could I not adore Galen? I have a thing for guys with accents and as I read I could almost hear that delicious Scottish brogue. But an accent isn't Galen's only appeal, he's funny, rugged, loves his family and the people of his village. Even loves his pub that's falling apart at every turn. Outwardly he's sarcastic and gruff, even a bit serious. When you take a closer look though you see that he can be all those things, in a very charming way, but he's also got a really big heart.

So I was basically falling in love with this book page after page, until I got a bit past the halfway mark and I lost a bit of that loving feeling. The arrival of Sloane's friends  should have added more fun and shenanigans to the plot, but for me it was just a huge annoyance.

First, it was one of my biggest pet peeves. The characters from Sloane's side of the book, including herself, are all very well off. So as each one of her friends are getting off the bus in Gairloch there was a fashion play by play from head to toe as Sloane went over what her friends were wearing, down to the accessories and labels. I can't even explain why this bugs me so much but when labels start getting thrown around I guess I'm not girly girl enough to appreciate that and instead I'm turned off. I mean, I guess I realize it's probably relevant to these girls because of who they are and them coming from money but it still bugs me all the same.

I may have not been so put off by that originally, but then all it took was a few minutes to realize that her friends were not very nice people and I think it ended up upping that twinge of annoyance. Only one of the three friends was halfway decent. They were all three very high-handed. They treated her as if she couldn't possibly do anything right in her life on her own. Without them holding her hand and telling her how she should feel and what she should  do in any given situation. Obviously she wasn't over her ex because she wasn't interested in any of the men THEY had tried to set her up with back home. I wish I could explain better the situation that made me so angry over her ex but...you know, spoilers. Ugh! They were just horrible! And at one point when Sloane mentions to her friends that she thinks Galen is having second thoughts about their relationship, her friend Paige, the one whom I despised the most, actually has the nerve to say to her that she needs to lock it down with him basically because, and I quote, 'It's not as if guys are beating down your door in Chicago.' Really? Who says that? Not a friend.

Annoyances with so-called friends aside, I really enjoyed the romance between Sloane and Galen. It was worth reading the parts that I wasn't too fond of. It's always fun to see people from two different worlds, which couldn't be closer to the truth in their case, come together and find their place in each other's lives. With these two it was sweet and pretty funny. Sure, it may have been pretty fast and about as close to insta type love that you can get, but that didn't seem to bother me for once. They were just too sweet to let it bother me and the sparks between them were like whoa...

In the end everything I liked outweighed any of the little things that bothered me here and there revolving around Sloane's friends. It was fun, it was sweet, it had me wanting to hop on the next plane to Scotland and find a Highlander of my own! I'm actually looking forward to reading the next book in this series when it comes out! Well, unless of course, it happens to be Paige's book. Though I guess I'd be slightly curious if my feelings toward her could be turned around. I guess I'll have to see what the future holds for this series!

Even though he knows he broke her heart last year when things got too serious and he panicked and left, she’s being way too nice about it now. And it scares him.

Something is up with his favorite bridesmaid, and he’s determined to find out what…

I received a copy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating.

With meddling friends, a second chance at love and lots of angst, humor and swoons...Bridesmaid Blues has become an instant favorite. It was a quick and easy, unputdownable read that had me completely charmed from start to finish!

When the opportunity presented itself to review this book I snatched it up without hesitation or even reading the blurb. I've previously only read one other book by Boone Brux but really it only took that one book to appreciate her writing. The first one being paranormal/mythology had me curious if I would feel that same excitement with one of her contemporaries. No worries there. I was just as captivated with this one, if not maybe even more so.

Though I'd probably end up saying this about everything that I list that made me fall in love with this book, but the thing that I loved most is the characters. It's not just Dani and Jamie that I ended up completely in love with, it was everyone. This group of friends and their dynamic had me grinning ear to ear as I devoured every word on the pages. I can't wait to read each of their stories, and to see some more of the bride, Roxie's, meddling.

As for the two main characters of the book though, I adored Dani especially her appearance in the opening chapter. The way she just sort of...falls...onto the pages had me in stitches. And holy swoons batman, Jamie! I loved how obvious it was that even though he is this no commitments and definitely no love or marriage kind of guy, you could really tell that deep down his feelings for Dani were stronger than he even realized himself. They were both so sweet and funny. Their banter was great. I just really loved their relationship.

I am such a sucker for second chances at love. They're the stories that make my heart thud the wildest, when they're done right. Boone Brux has definitely done it right in the case of this book. Her characters are so fun and full of life that you want to be friends with them yourself. There was just the right amount of push and pull to give you hope and yet at times have you wondering if things would come together in the end. I love that! I'm already dying for the next book in this series and this one has just released! Sigh.

If you haven't read a book by Boone Brux yet I highly recommend starting with this one! It'll leave you hooked and wanting more. Besides, misery loves company and I want you all miserable and waiting for book 2 with me! :)

BLOG TOUR: On My Knees (Stark International Trilogy #2) by J. Kenner + EXCERPT!

onmyknees

About ON MY KNEES

Jackson Steele and Sylvia Brooks continue to thrill in the second novel of a scintillating, emotionally charged new trilogy that returns to the world of J. Kenner’s beloved Stark novels:Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me.

I never thought I’d lose control, but his desire took me right to the edge.

Powerful, ambitious, and devastatingly sexy, Jackson Steele was unlike any other man I’d ever known. He went after what he wanted with his whole mind, body, and soul—and I was the woman in his sights. One touch and I surrendered, one night together and I was undone.

Jackson and I had secrets, dark pieces of our pasts that threatened to swallow us both. We couldn’t outrun our demons, or the people trying to tear us apart. But in our passion we found salvation, and in each other’s arms we found release.

I was scared to trust Jackson fully, to finally let go. Yet no matter the dangers that lay ahead, I knew I was his—and now that we’ve laid claim, there’s no more holding back.

On My Knees is intended for mature audiences.

Excerpt:

I no longer care who sees me. I just have to let go. I just have to cry. I just have to survive this, even though I’m not at all sure how to do that.

But then my door is jerked open, and I feel his hand on my arm.

And he’s pulling me out, and his hands are on my face, and he’s saying to me, “Open your eyes. Dammit, Sylvia, open your eyes.”

Jackson.
His eyes are wild. His brow furrowed with concern.
“You came,” I say stupidly. “You’re here.”

“Of course I am,” he says, as he pulls me close and holds me tight. “You need me. Where else would I be?”

“I need you to tell me, baby. How should I touch you to get you there? Tell me what you want. Tell me what turns you on.”
My cheeks burn, which is ridiculous considering how open I am to him at this moment. But I can’t help it.
“Tell me,” he says, stepping closer. “Or have none of it.”
My eyes cut to him. “Cruel, Mr. Steele?”
“I can be. Or I can be very, very kind.” As he speaks, he moves his fingertip over my body. Literally over it, by about two inches. So that while I can imagine his touch, I do not get to experience it. Even so, it seems to me like he is leaving a trail of heat in his wake.
All that does, though, is drive home how much I will be missing if he doesn’t touch me for real.

Bad boy Zane Wolfe has always been wild and reckless. Even though he’s hot for his high school sweetheart, Candi Brooks, settling down has never been in his plans. Beyond that, he’s changing in strange ways—and begins to wonder if there's truth to the local folklore that claims his family is cursed to be werewolves...

There's never been a time when waitress Candi didn't have a serious weakness for Zane and his intense, dark sex appeal. She craves him. But after her life changes dramatically, and Zane won’t commit, Candi’s reached her limit. She can't wait forever...so she's taking her heart off the table before it gets good and broken.

Something mysterious is going on in Wolfe Creek, and danger stalks Candi. Zane will do anything he can to protect her. But the one person she needs protection from might just be him…

I received a copy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating!

I'm always so nervous about starting a new shifter/werewolf book or series. I love paranormal books but it always seems that the one creature from that genre that produces the most cringe-worthy books are the shifters. Every once in a while you come across a really good one. But let's be honest, most of the time they're either overdone, totally cheesy, or make up for a lack of content and quality with an overabundance of sex. Because we all know that sex fixes all plot holes... Luckily, Hunter of Her Heart, had none of those issues. It was intriguing, exciting, filled with tension and danger, steamy and so much more. In fact, immediately upon finishing I went straight to Amazon to get the first book in the series! I'm very much looking forward to going back and reading Koda's story.

The lore revolving around Wolfe Creek and the Wolfe family was great. I'm enjoying how that's playing out in the story. It's like this legend, this scary story you tell each other or your kids growing up that seems to be just that. A legend. Until it affects you and then it's like surprise...those stories are real. It was so nice though to have that small tiny twist on most shifter stories. Where normally they change and are this uncontrollable creature who wouldn't know friend from foe and they go on a slaughter spree. This one isn't at all like that. And I won't say much else because it was a very pleasant surprise for me.

The really liked the characters of Zane and Candi instantly. They're relationship was as sweet and swoon worthy as it was incredibly frustrating. But that good kind of frustrating. The kind that's so full of angst and the bittersweet.  There was never a time where I didn't root for these two I just found myself constantly wanting to bonk their heads together and yell communicate!

Sure it was easy to immediately figure out where the danger that's stalking Candi is coming from. They were all surprised by it while I was thinking come on guys I figured this out back in chapter two! (Err...wherever he first appears.) That in no way took away any of the enjoyment I had reading this.

It's fun, it's interesting. it's different. The sexual situations or the alluding to such actually fit in with what's going on in story, it's not just pointless and fluffy. There's a bit of darkness and danger within it all as well. It kept me turning the pages as I perched on the edge of my seat that's for sure! If you like the paranormal/supernatural with the werewolves/shifters then I recommend giving this series a read. This one read perfectly fine as a standalone as I haven't read Lone Wolfe Protector yet. Though I can't fully guarantee that anything could've been missed in not starting there. Still I suggest giving this one a try!

Thanks to Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Portrait of a pretty teenage girl with redhaircovering her face with her hands

Excerpt:

Tanner
              Aw, shit.
I watched Andrea walk into the living room, the normal twitch of her hips absent. No one swayed ass like Andrea, and seeing it gone from her step was answer enough. Our normal whatever-the-fuck-it-was between us had gone further than I intended. No doubt what I’d said had cut her, but shit, it was no different than any other day.
My hand tightened on the neck of the bottle. For the life of me, I had no idea what the hell Andrea Walters’s problem was. Honestly. No fucking clue. One minute, sweet and sugary words parted those pouty pink lips of hers. Next second, she was a fire-breathing dragon from hell—a hot, fire-breathing dragon, but still. Her moods flipped more quickly than cups did during a game of flip cup.
Maybe it was because she was a redhead?
              I smirked.
She’d always been this way with me, and the most fucked-up think about it, there was a part of me that actually looked forward to whatever was going to come out of her mouth. Twisted as fuck. It was like a game between us, to see who could hit the hardest without lifting a finger. If nothing else, it was damn entertaining—or at least, it had been until now. Now, I wasn’t too sure about it.
Those pretty doe eyes of hers had looked suspiciously damp right before she’d looked away, and yeah…that didn’t sit right with me.
Kyler shot me a look as he walked past me and grabbed a beer out of the fridge, but I watched Andrea sit on the edge of the couch, her posture unnaturally rigid.
Sydney leaned against the arm. “We’re thinking about leaving early in the morning, around six.”
My gaze flicked to Andrea, expecting her to make some kind of crack about not getting up that early, but she was abnormally quiet. My spine stiffened.
“That should put us at the cabin between nine and ten in the morning, depending on traffic.” Kyler stood beside me as he screwed off the cap. “Then we’ll be heading back the following Monday.”
“Sounds good to me.” I didn’t take my eyes off Andrea as she fiddled with a strap on her sandals, slipping them onto her feet.
Sydney glanced at me, smiling softly. “You’re definitely off from the fire department?”
I nodded. Kyler had mentioned weeks ago about wanting to hit up the cabin before everyone headed back to class, and I’d requested the time off then. Which had meant I’d pulled a lot of doubles, but I hadn’t minded it. Wasn’t too different from the twelve-hour shifts we worked in the first place, and I’d only be there until February of next year, and then I was off to the academy. Not that I was in any hurry to leave the fire department, but being a cop was in my blood. Except I wanted to be a good cop. I’d probably still volunteer at the fire hall once I knew what kind of schedule I was looking at on the force.
“It makes sense if we drive up together.” Sydney toyed with a strand of her hair. “Kyler and I can pick you two up.”
Andrea had twisted toward Sydney and started to protest the whole idea of taking one car. I zoned out, staring at her as the bottle of beer dangled from the tips of my fingers.
Damn…she was a cute girl. Nah, she was more than cute, and it wasn’t like this was the first time I’d noticed that. From the first time I’d seen her at the bar with Sydney, she’d done more than just poke my interest. Hell, anyone with eyes knew she was a very pretty girl. Lush lips. Freckled cheeks and thick, dark eyelashes. Come to think of it, she reminded me of a girl I’d had a crush on in middle school. Hell, couldn’t remember that chick’s name, but she’d had freckles and red hair. I think I used to pull on her braids or some annoying shit like that. My lips tipped up in a small grin as I lifted the bottle to my mouth. Andrea was a motherfucking firecracker, though, not the kind of girl who was easily tamed.
Hell, not the kind of girl you even wanted to tame.

And don’t miss the first standalone book in the series…
